LIFE on the BOG
For the Birds
The A.D. Makepeace Company has partnered with the Junior Associates of the Wankinquoah Rod & Gun Club in Middleboro to expand the presence of bird boxes around the company’s cranberry bogs.
At a recent meeting of the group, Gavin Bartlett, Assistant General Manager of Cranberry Operations at ADM, discussed birds’ important role in agriculture. Birds consume thousands of damaging insects daily.
More than 30 Junior Associates and their Advisors are helping to assemble and decorate the bird boxes under Gavin’s direction. Not only does this project provide the Associates with practical skills, but it also instills a sense of environmental responsibility and community pride. The collaborative effort aims to build 60 bluebird boxes and 10 woodcock boxes, strategically placed bogside in Wareham, Carver, and Plymouth.
