LIFE on the BOG
Looking Forward to Spring

With the winter we’ve had, many people are wondering whether all this snow and cold is actually beneficial for cranberry bogs. Of course, as anyone who relies on Mother Nature knows, only time will tell for certain!
Snow acts as a natural winter shield for cranberry bogs. By covering the dormant vines, it helps insulate them from extreme cold and harsh winds, reducing the risk of winter damage. Snow also works hand-in-hand with traditional winter practices like ice flooding and sanding, which growers use to protect the plants and encourage healthy root and shoot growth—setting the stage for stronger vines and better yields in the spring. And spring is something we’re all eagerly awaiting!
